Pujara’s gritty ton helps India take slender lead
An unbeaten 132-run knock from Cheteshwar Pujara helped India took a slender lead of 27 runs in the first innings before getting all-out on 273 on Day 2 of the fourth Test against England in Southampton. England were 6 without loss at stumps, trailing India by 21 runs. The day certainly belonged to Cheteshwar Pujara who scored a magnificent century (His 15th ton) in Test cricket taking India out of the dumps. While wickets kept tumbling at the other end, Pujara stood tall against the lethal England seamers. Resuming at 19 for no loss, India lost KL Rahul (19) early in the morning session. Shikhar Dhawan (23) also departed in quick succession with India 50 for two on the board. Post Dhawan's departure, skipper Virat Kohli (46) and Pujara stitched a 92-run partnership putting India back in the game. But soon after Kohli's dismissal, the middle order tumbled like a pack of cards. Ajinkya Rahane (11), Hardik Pandya (4) and Rishabh Pant (0) disappointed with the bat as India went from 142-3 in the second session to 195-8 in the final session. Pujara later on, with the help of the tail-enders Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, took India past England's first innings total. For England, Moeen Ali starred with the ball taking a five wickets in the first innings.
