Unai Emery denies Mesut Ozil rift before Cardiff clash
Arsenal boss Unai Emery has denied rumours of a tussle with Mesut Ozil ahead of his team’s encounter against Cardiff City.
Ozil, 29, started Arsenal’s two opening games of the 2018-19 Premier League season, against Manchester City and Chelsea, both of which the Gunners lost.
The German international reportedly walked out of a training session in the lead up to Arsenal’s match against West Ham last Saturday and was not named in the squad for the 3-1 win.
Emery will likely put him back in the first team for the Gunners’ visit to newly promoted Cardiff City against Sunday.
“Throughout my career I have respect for the media, for newspaper, radio, TV. But there are a lot of people in the media and at not every moment is the information real,” responded manager Emery.
“It isn’t true the news. It’s easy for me to say it’s not true, our one is true, and I need to be quiet or say it. For me that is one thing, I don’t stop during my career for everything that the news says about me or the players.
“But in this situation with Mesut Ozil it is clear, he is OK, he has the commitment we want, he is a very important player for us and we want to help him to give us the best performance in each match and each moment.”
