Euro JK: Chatterjee starts Round 2 with two wins in Coimbatore

Nayan Chatterjee started Round 2 in the 2018 Euro JK Championship in a dominant fashion with a win in Race 1 from pole at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. The Mumbaikar had Karthik Tharani on his tail all-through but managed to do well after the latter nearly cleared him at the start.

Chatterjee held on to his lead though to win his first race of the weekend with Tharani having to settle for second after the Chennai-based racer cleared front-row starter Chetan Korada at the start. Korada in fact lost out whole lot to finish last.

Sri Lanka’s Brayan Perera rounded out the podium with Ashwin Datta in fourth after he cleared Sudarshan Rao Karwal midway in the race. Karwal had a fine run to be fifth as Manav Sharma in sixth led four drivers on his tail close behind.

Yash Aradhya was behind Sharma at one point but retired with three laps remaining which promoted Nirmal Uma Shankar, Arya Singh and Mira Erda then to seventh, eighth and ninth respectively with Korada completing the 10 finishers.

Race 2

In a Top 6 reverse grid formation, Sharma led the way in Race 2 of the weekend from Karwal but the latter retired on Lap 1 allowing Datta to second with Tharani in third from Perera and Chatterjee. As Sharma led the way, Tharani found his way to second from Datta.

Race 1 winner Chatterjee then made a move on Perera for fourth on Lap 7 but things chanced quickly as Sharma spun out of the lead and in the melee, out of nowhere, Chatterjee pushed himself to the top from Tharani and Perera.

The Mumbaikar then led the way until the end to win the second race as well with Tharani, Perera and Datta completing a Race 1 repeat of Top 4. After a non-finish in the earlier race, Aradhya did well to be fifth from last on the grid.

The Bangalorean was already in eighth after Lap 1 and then cleared Shankar and Singh to fifth with the latter finishing in sixth from Erda in seventh and Korada in eighth as Shankar, Sharma and Karwal  failed to finish the race.
