Expect lots of empty seats during Edgbaston Test

Expect lots of empty seats during Edgbaston Test

From Wednesday, England will play their landmark 1000th Test. For the entire English cricket fraternity, this is going to be a huge occasion as they will become the first team to play this many matches in white clothing. However, during the course of this historic fixture, there are expected to be thousands of empty seats at Edgbaston.

According to the Warwickshire Cricket authorities, around 10,000 tickets are still unsold on the first two days of the Test match. The local organisers believe as the match is starting in the middle of the week, the turnout is going to be an issue.

Neil Snowball, the chief executive of Warwickshire, was quoted as saying in the Daily Telegraph, “We have been impacted by the Wednesday start and this series will throw up the whole debate about regularity of scheduling. Overall we will do around 70,000 tickets altogether. It is just days one and two that sales are not what we would normally expect.”

On the eve of the game, England skipper Joe Root has invited the locals to attend the match as he feels both teams are capable of putting up a highly competitive show.
