Andre Russell included for the last two ODIs against England

Andre Russell included for the last two ODIs against England

Explosive West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell is staging a comeback into the Windies side for the final two One-Day International games in the ongoing five-match ODI series against England.

But, they also got the bad news that their wicket-taking pacer Kemar Roach will miss the whole series due to an injury. The right-arm fast bowler complained of back pain during the final Test match against England and later it was discovered that the bowler had a stress reaction on his back.

Confirming the news, Cricket West Indies issued a press release which stated, “Kemar Roach had to be withdrawn from the One-Day International series due to injury and will be replaced in the squad by the experienced Andre Russell for the last two months. We believe Russell will add value to the side.”

The statement added, “We are well aware that although Andre’s bowling may be limited due to a knee problem, his tremendous batting ability to power the ball in the back end of the game will be an asset to the team. The panel takes this opportunity to wish captain Jason Holder and his team all the best for the remainder of matches in the series.”

Russell, who is regarded as one of the best players in the shortest format of the game, will be playing his first One-Day International game in almost a year. His last ODI game came last year in July. The player missed out on an entire India tour because of an injury.

The 30-year-old cricketer featured in Bangladesh Premier League during that period and will add depth to the Windies who have been playing some very good cricket against the English men.

The fourth One-Day game will be played in Grenada on February 27 before the final match takes place in St. Lucia on March 2.
